Warwickshire developer announces winners of nature photography competition

Housebuilder Mulberry Homes has announced the winners of its nature photography competition, who have each been awarded prizes worth £100 and will have their images displayed in a 2022 calendar.

From August to mid-November, local communities, amateur photographers and nature enthusiasts close to Mulberry Homes’ developments in Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire submitted their very best local wildlife and nature photographs. The competition was hugely successful, and in total received 322 entries.

The competition was split into two categories, ‘adult’ and ‘junior’, with those aged under 18-years-old eligible for the latter.

12 winning photographs have now been selected to feature in a nature-themed 2022 calendar, including a photograph that was taken in Warwickshire. The calendars will be given out to customers and local residents, and be displayed in all of the developer’s marketing suites.

Mulberry Homes has also crowned one overall adult winner, Duncan Fossey, aged 47, and one overall junior winner, Hannah Brookes, aged 14, who will be featured on the calendar’s front page.

Each winner received vouchers worth £100 for local camera shops, and the overall adult and junior winners were also awarded an additional £50 each.

Duncan Fossey said: “I’m thrilled to have been selected as the overall adult winner of Mulberry Homes’ photography calendar competition. I took this photograph of a barn owl mid-flight in my hometown of Towcester in Northamptonshire, and I’m honoured that Mulberry Homes have deemed it the best entry received by an adult participant.

“I can’t wait to see my photo in the 2022 calendar, and I’m looking forward to enjoying my prize!”

Hannah Brookes said: “I was so happy to hear that I was the overall junior winner! It was very unexpected, but I’m thrilled that Mulberry Homes loved my photo of a mouse. I’m so excited to hang up my copy of the calendar and see all the other winners’ photographs!”

As many photographs were submitted by the public, the housebuilder has also selected seven images to be displayed in a showhome at its newest development, Clifton Gardens in Clifton, Bedfordshire. As a thank you, each photographer has been gifted a £50 voucher.

Kerry Jones, Sales and Marketing Director at Mulberry Homes, said: “We are very proud to announce the winners of our hugely popular photography calendar competition.

“Selecting our favourite photographs out of over 300 entries was a real challenge, however, we thoroughly enjoyed looking through them all.

“We’re honoured that so many people took part in our competition, and we’d like to thank everyone who got involved. Congratulations to all of our well-deserved winners, especially our overall adult and junior winners, who all submitted truly incredible photographs.

“We’re thrilled to also be putting up seven wonderful photographs in our showhome at Clifton Gardens. We can’t wait until the showhome is open for visitors and residents to come and admire them.

“As a responsible housebuilder, creating safe environments for nature to grow and thrive is a very important part of our ethos. Raising awareness of how we can keep vulnerable wildlife, such as hedgehogs and barn owls, protected is something very close to our hearts, and we’re delighted to have shared our passion with the local community.”

The competition formed part of the developer’s ongoing ecology campaign, in which it has pledged to support local wildlife and rescue sanctuaries nearby to its developments.

Mulberry Homes’ The Templars development in Temple Herdewyke is open by appointment.

In 2022, Mulberry Homes is running a monthly community fund, called The Mulberry Community Chest. As part of the programme, charities and public organisations local to its developments are invited to apply to receive a one-off donation of £1 to £1000, and each month, a judging panel will select a beneficiary to secure the requested funding.
