Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure tops out at £25 million Vita Student Scheme

Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure has celebrated the halfway stage in its work building Select Property Group’s first Vita Student residential scheme in the Midlands.

The main contractor is delivering the £25 million project through the Vita framework, which it won a place on in March 2018

The construction milestone was celebrated with a traditional topping out ceremony, attended by representatives from the project and client team.

Located on the site of the former BBC Pebble Mill studios, on Pershore Road, the development comprises 357 high-specification, self-contained studios.

Designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects, the 115,000 sq ft development is split into three tiered towers, of four, five and six storeys each. Almost 6,500 sq ft of space has been dedicated to amenity-rich communal hub space.

Students will benefit from access to bookable private dining facilities, study rooms, a gaming room, a cinema, and a gym. There will also be a free self-service grab-and-go breakfast bar.

In addition, the reception desk will be manned 24 hours a day, offering residents support and security.

Construction work is on course to be completed in time for the start of the academic year in 2019.

Richard Fielding, area director at Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure in the Midlands, said: “Providing first-class environments for students to live, work and play is integral to attracting the best and brightest young minds.

“Universities play a key role in driving the Midlands Engine and we’re proud to be delivering a number of telling contributions to support them in the region; both in world-leading teaching facilities for the universities and for pioneers in the student-resi market, like Select Property Group.

“We’re incredibly pleased to reach this milestone and look forward to seeing the first residents arrive next year.”

Subcontractors involved in the scheme include Paragon Building Consultancy and BWB Consulting.
