Is your business the same as a book on a shelf that no one reads?

Is your business the same as a book on a shelf that no one reads?

Creativity is a wonderful thing. Or is it?

As business owners, or potential wannabe’s we like to think that we are creating either in what we produce or the ideas that we have, seldom is the case – but only for in our own minds and a circle of acquaintances is what keeps the creative gene rambling on.

For the small business person, there’s two types of creativity the first being creative to actually serve the ultimate purpose which is that of making money, the second serving the purpose of stroking the ego.

Rarely do all of us fit into the first type, but most certainly nearly all of us all fit into the second type – let’s face it as a small business owner we all have an ego.... we have to, it’s in the rules isn’t it?

Fitting within the second type is all well and good, so long as you stay in touch with reality – if not however the vision can become a little blurry by hanging around business acquaintances of the same ilk and doing nothing but stroking each other’s ego.

These comments may seem harsh, but it takes a rare breed to say things as openly as they are...we all know we say and think the exact same thing behind closed doors.

The comparison being hinted at in this blog title ‘Is your business the same as a book on a shelf that no one reads’, is that unless you have really made it as a writer, no one (in any great numbers) reads your books.

Yes of course people will read your book, the scary thing being, that you may know you’re all readers by name; and possibly even their email addresses as the numbers are so low and you will have contacted them in the first place as an acquaintance to read your book.

The point here is that there is no real right or wrong as it depends on which creative type you are, but should you wish to make money either as a business owner or writer then you need to think bigger and better and connect to a wider audience and don’t be fooled or hoodwinked by business acquaintances.

Yes, you need to work together, yes you more than likely need each other, but make sure that you get tuned into the real purpose of what you’re doing and why, and don’t get sidetracked, flattered by, or reliant on others.

The fact is there are already millions of books out there and the numbers grow by the day because of a growing number of creative types who have ideas to air Messages to tell, or things to get off their chest.

Unfortunately, this means that many will fall onto, and stay firmly rooted to the depth black bookshelf in the ground, or if online into folders and archives without being looked at, opened, or read.

For many who write, the reality is it would have been easier to send their writings to their reading audience as a letter or email, rather than going through the expense and strain of stoking their ego.

The same goes for businesses, with new ones being started by the score by the day, the numbers growing more and more means a high majority of them will not mature to fulfilling the true reason and purpose of a business. Which is to make money.

If you have a business, get out there and connect, and once you have - go out and connect to people you haven’t before, and so on. Not real wise words you may say, but you’d be surprised how many businesses fail to do this and stay within a closed circle in which they feel safe. Not necessarily a circle that produces revenue for their business.
