Griffin and King meet up with Quality Solicitors Talbots

A joint seminar was held this afternoon by Griffin and King who are insolvency practitioners based in the West Midlands and Quality Solicitors Talbots who have 4 branches throughout the West Midlands. The venue for the meeting was over at the Village Hotel Walsall which is just off junction 10 of the M6.

The meeting kicked off with registration followed by a bit of networking around the buffet table; here’s a question. When networking and food are involved do you eat first then speak, or eat and speak at the same time taking the risk of peppering the person in front of you with fragments of sausage roll?

At the appropriate time, everyone was summoned to the next room to hear the seminar which was being carried out by Tim Corfield Managing Director of Griffin and King and Mark Hodgson from Quality Solicitors Talbots.

Tim Corfield centred his talk about a day in his life whereby he explained the various elements that he and his businesses deal with on a day to day basis. For those who don’t know what it is that Griffin and King do, they are licensed insolvency practitioners and are based in Walsall.

His talk highlighted the various debt positions which people get themselves into whether that is by negligence on their own part or by circumstances beyond their control, it also touched on how which of course we all know makes sense to get the right calibre of the company to deal with the problems in hand.

This was highlighted via the explanation of a real case but with the names changed whereby they had already gone to an insolvency company outside of the West Midlands area with the first real reason being to obtain a loan through them, and when they were unable to obtain a loan the company moved them across into an IVA agreement but weren’t really in good enough position to deal with the case in hand due to possible lack of experience in the area required so you guessed it…..things started to go wrong.

It was explained how Griffin and King picked the case up in the client's desperation and managed to advert them attending a hearing at the high court in London the following day, effectively managing to keep the business alive – as it is today.

Tim explained other cases which they had dealt with and then passed the mantel over to Mark Hodgson from Quality Solicitors Talbots.

Mark’s talk covered the protection elements of business such as having terms and conditions in place, having partnership agreements, responsibility schedules as it was these types of things by not having in place which causes companies to get into problems possibly requiring help and assistance from companies like Griffin and King.

Quality Solicitors Talbots it was explained provide cover for many business areas and to back this up other Talbots representatives such as Jayne Holliday who deals with HR, Melanie Mapstone who is an associate in the firm’s Business Services Team and Lorraine Adams who specialises in employment law were all on hand to answer any questions the assembled audience had.

The seminar started to be concluded with a question and answer section and was finally drawn to a close with the announcement of the winners for the prize business card draw.

The meeting was well organised and saw many business people who help local businesses gain access to finance in the West Midlands in attendance.
