Do you hear this often - Just devote 5-6 hours per week, and all will be fine

All businesses need maximum effort put in right at the start, and indeed the same is said throughout the life of the business except that perhaps the effort might be more evenly spread via subcontractors or employees.

There are businesses out there which budding local business people may wish to consider as a route in operating their own business but still be part of a larger business organisation – these business opportunities are often referred to by some as ‘Multi-Level Marketing’

Although the “Just devote 5-6 hours per week” thing is not always Multi-Level Marketing – and this perception often puts people off; – also people know and assume that such a chance to award so little time always carries a cost, and pondering whether such a business opportunity really exists by just devoting 5-6 hours per week.

Many people will believe what they're told……correction…. hope what their told is correct and enter into a business opportunity with their fingers and toes crossed, waiting for the money to roll in.

The stark reality is that devoting 5-6 hours per week at the start of the business will not produce results, perhaps after 12 months, or 5 years, or even 10 years it might – but right at the start…. no way hozay.

Now please understand here that we’re not saying that such business models are not good, or even that they don’t work – they are just reliant on the person who’s devoting the 5-6 hours per week to be decisive, get off their arse, be organised, be driven, be motivated, and focused and so on.

Loads of people, who do such opportunities are none of these and yet they take up such opportunities, do nothing constructive to get results and then say it doesn’t work….!

It’s the results that matter, not creating a nice form for people to fill in, not having a detailed leaflet to hand out, not writing emails or letters…..the 5-6 hour thing is about results….everything else needs to be done…yes, but at the risk of repeating ourselves, it’s about results.

Also, the deal in the West Midlands in some budding business people not going for such opportunities is that there are so many to choose from, cleaning products, residential and business utilities, social media marketing services to name but a few.

So what’s the big deal by saying “Just devote 5-6 hours per week, and all will be fine”- well putting it simply it’s a marketing method to appeal to the fact that people do not or cannot because of other commitments work a full-time job. Or that they are disheartened or disillusioned or even burnt out by working for other companies and want to try something for themselves, for them to be their own boss.

There are companies who offer such 5-6 hours per week opportunities which are not multi-level marketing, however, they forget themselves and promote it as such when in actual fact it’s a part-time commission only based opportunity – nothing to do whatsoever with team building, or as some would call it pyramid selling.

Fact is, that no matter what the opportunity is, people are now lumping them all in the same pot as soon as they hear the “Just devote 5-6 hours per week” thing.

The thinkers, those who consider or listen about the business opportunities break it down, thinking what in business can actually be achieved by spending 1 hour per day on the business, perhaps a couple of phones calls, perhaps a 20 minute meeting allowing for 40 minutes to travel there and back…..point is they take the 5-6 hours per week thing literally.

For such businesses who offer such opportunities you really need to connect to the potential business person, as your time could be spent better in picking and choosing who takes up the opportunity rather than just going for everyone and hoping.

Having a high volume of distributors or introducers who do nothing - is not good and you’ll only have yourself to blame as not only does this place a higher workload on your administration it also creates pure frustration and disappointment on your part when things not working as they should., or as even you were told how they would.

Also creating hype and false hope to try and get distributors or introducers to do things for their business is not good either as this will cause resentment on their part when results do not happen.

In reality, they are only interested in what they would earn and not really on what you would earn, how many houses you may have, or the type of car you drive.

Whilst the 5-6 hour might appeal, perhaps more so in the past, it’s not really going to cut the mustard in paying the bills today – so building a picture of luxury for the future might just be a bit much for many currently.

For the potential business persons looking at such business opportunities you really need to connect with yourselves and the information given and be honest in asking yourself “is such a thing really for me” – listen to what your head says….if its “I hope I can do this” then it’s not for you.
