West Midlands Electrical and Mechanical Firm Celebrates Double-Whammy

A leading E&M organisation is celebrating a double success after being named as a finalist twice at the industry’s flagstone awards scheme.

West Midlands-based Orton Group has been shortlisted in the Best Contractor of the Year (Over £5m) category at this year’s Electrical Industry Awards, as well as in the Apprentice of the Year category where they put forward one of their budding stars, Jordan Yates.

The awards evening is taking place at The Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington on Thursday 26th October, where over 450 finalists and their guests will join to network and celebrate the best in the industry, from trade and lighting products of the year categories, through to mobile applications and marketing initiatives.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted in not one, but two awards!” Andrew Lowe, Managing Director of Orton Group, an organisation he founded over 25 years ago at the age of 21. “To be shortlisted in these coveted categories is a huge testament to the phenomenal success the entire Orton Group has enjoyed across all divisions over the past 12 months in particular, and I’m delighted that we’ve been recognised in this way.”

The judges acknowledged Orton’s growth across the social housing sector and specifically of its acquisition of a part of npower’s Social Housing division last year, following the energy giant’s decision to exit the sector.

In addition, the company’s evidence of overcoming challenges and providing solutions to a range of projects also played a part in it firm being whittled down to the final four in the Contractor of the Year category, as did its charity work where it pledged to raise £25,000 for various causes as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.

“Having been an electrical apprentice myself before founding Orton Group, we’ve always been committed to providing opportunities to local youngsters to enter the industry. Jordan is one who’s been with us for a few years and has excelled in all areas of his work, from his personal attitude, ethics and values, through to his commitment to consistently learning and developing within the group and alongside senior management.

“We’re in such a positive position, having just won several prestigious contracts and renewals, and massively expanding our team, fleet, and offices. We’re so excited about attending the awards ceremony in October and in getting to celebrate our achievements, whether we pick up the awards or not, as a team.”
