Tenants can sort out their bills in the West Midlands

There is a common misconception among people who rent properties in the West Midlands that they have to accept the gas and electricity energy supplier they have when they move into the property, however, this is rarely the case. Ofgem has made it their mission to encourage the 9 million tenants currently in the UK to go energy shopping and compare gas and electricity prices.

A report has highlighted the facts that according to statistics

• 77% of tenants say they have never switched energy supplier
• 20% of tenants are not aware that it is possible to switch to compare gas and electric prices
• Renters are only half as likely to switch compared to homeowners
• The 9 million renters could save a massive £200 if they shopped around for their electricity

Dermot Nolan, Ofgem CEO "the number of British households renting stands at 9 million and counting, yet research has shown that this group is not shopping around for their energy and missing out on savings of up to £200.

The data collected on tenants back up research showing that although we shop around for many things in life, we’re still missing a trick when it comes to our energy bills. 51% of Brits would travel up to 5 miles to save £20 yet overlook substantial savings – up to £200.

There are a number of energy price comparison companies where tenants in the West Midlands can compare gas and electricity prices for your area by checking online or by telephone. Once you have filled in the application with your main details, which typically takes around half an hour, the energy provider will sort the switch for you. Finding the best money-saving deal for you, and switching gas and electric supplier can be a great way to reduce your energy bills and stop wasting money.
