A Wolverhampton-based not-for-profit is celebrating after being shortlisted in a regional awards scheme for its work in the community.
Paycare, a provider of Health Cash Plans for individuals and businesses, has been selected as a finalist in the Contributing to the Community category of the West Midlands Business Masters Award with judges recognising its long-term commitment to giving back.
The firm, whose Wolverhampton roots date back to 1874, is involved in many initiatives across the region and further afield, sponsoring local sports clubs including Darlaston Town FC, Wednesfield Ladies and Bilston Town FC. It also lends its support to a variety of causes including Project GIVE which aims to eradicate ‘period poverty’, as well as regularly raising funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, The Rotary Club for Wolverhampton, and The Good Shepherd Ministry.
The awards evening takes place on Thursday 21st March and will celebrate the best in business from across the West Midlands with other categories including Newcomer of the Year, Professional Services, Family Business, and Fast Growth.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted in this year’s awards,” explained Kevin Rogers, CEO of Paycare. “Since our inception, we’ve been very fortunate to support an incredibly diverse range of causes and projects, and our work during 2018 was no exception.
“One of the big causes we were immediately keen to support was the issue of period poverty where it’s estimated around 1 in 10 young women and girls cannot afford basic menstrual products. We not only sponsored Motherwell Football Club and West Bromwich Albion F.C in their introduction of free sanitary products in the stadiums, but we introduced them within Paycare House and donated some of our unused office space to Project GIVE, which donates items to local schools and colleges, and raises awareness of the issue.”
To date, Paycare has donated over £2.2million to causes, charities and initiatives, and it encourages its own team to do as much as they can too, with the organisation providing all staff with two additional days of fully-paid holiday each year for the purpose of volunteering, taking part in events to raise funds, or donating their time to causes close to their hearts.
“We’re in this business of health because we want to make a difference,” Kevin added. “By making sure that we continue to grow and flourish, and that we help enhance the quality of life for our Policyholders through access to a wide range of preventative services, we’re able to continue to give even more back to causes that help many others within our society.
