Startup Britain Bus Visits Birmingham to Tackle Rise in Midlands Unemployment Rate

National enterprise campaign StartUp Britain is set to visit Birmingham this summer help tackle the unemployment rise of 15,000 in the region and help to boost the number of business started in the UK.

The campaign’s double decker bus will be in Victoria Square on Thursday 8th August from 10am, filled with start-ups experts, business advisors and entrepreneur mentors ready to provide instant help and support to the growing number of people, who wish to become business owners in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region.

Stats show that micro businesses account for 95% of all British businesses, provide employment for 7.8 million UK people and account for 20% private sector turnover.

StartUp Britain co-Founder Emma Jones MBE said “Since we launched StartUp Britain two years ago, we have seen a rise in people starting their own business. Last year alone, 484, 211 new businesses were started in the UK which was a record number. By bringing our bus to Birmingham, we want to give people the confidence to find their inner entrepreneur and provide a boost to their local economy!”

The StartUp Britain campaign is supported by top firms, including Paypal, BT and Intuit – this year it has the backing of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Business secretary Vince Cable stated “The StartUp Britain Bus will bring direct advice to budding entrepreneurs and those wanting to grow existing businesses. Its advisors can tell you how to get a StartUp Loan, or how to find out about mentoring.”

As part of this year’s bus tour, StartUp Britain will be awarding the best town the title of StartUp City of the Year, based on the support and impact that the city creates on their bus stop.

Joel Blake AGP, award-winning entrepreneur and the StartUp Britain Ambassador for Birmingham said” As someone who is passionate about Birmingham, I would love the city to come together on the 8th August and empower people in the city to turn their challenges into motivation and help them to create their own futures!
